What could be causing hives on pigs?

The pig could have any number of problems: it could have been bitten by bugs or a snake, it could have been exposed to harsh chemicals, or it could even have "bed sores" from lying on one side for too long. The pig should be taken to a veterinarian immediately.

It is a very rare occurence requiring certain weather conditions. If it has been very warm and the pig has been wallowing in the muck, then just lazing about, it will give the mud wasps time to build their hives in the goo that is spread all over the pig.

Pig's skin is so similar to human skin that it can be used for grafts on burn victims. Like us, they are prone to skin diseases. They can get hives from irritants or chemicals. Insects that lay eggs under the skin cause infections. A vet should examine unusual lesions.
