Unfortunatly, before a child is able to verbalize their problems it is difficult to diagnose why they may be crying. Problem solve by eliminating possibilities. Gas, nightmares, wetting the bed, lonelyness, an unexpected noise, could all be culprits.

This is common. Toddlers dream, often about things that scared them during the day. Monitor what TV the child sees, but recognize this is normal and simply comfort the child, cuddle them, assure them you are there, until they go back to sleep. Don't make too much of it.

Sometimes a toddler gets frightened of something we adults think is silly, maybe leaving a night light on might help, children do have active imaginations. Or there is something else, try to get the toddler to explain in a child`s way.

At two they can start having night terrors, so that could be one reason, if it is then try limiting TV. Teething is another. Check if wet, also.
