Sharp pains, other than if caused by a specific wound, can often be caused by cramping. In your hand, this cramping may come from keeping your hand in the same position while using its muscles too often. This can come from actions like typing or holding a pipe and pumping.

A sharp pain in the left hand, absent any immediate injury, is usually due to a pinched nerve in the wrist, arm, or upper back. It can also be secondary to arthritis and inflamation, though this is usually more dull and burning pain.

It could be Arthritis, or it could just be a stress pain from doing high tension activities like working out of sporting. If the pain does not go away assume it's serious and see a local doctor.

It is probably caused by a sore muscle or tendon. If you have been doing alot of activities that you dont normally do then this could cause pain to your hand. Also even if you arnet really doing anything diffrent but you just turned it wrong then it could also cause this.

A sharp pain in your left hand could be caused by many injuries or disorders. Carpal tunnel syndrome, pinched nerves, bulged neck disc, and ligament injuries can cause this pain.
