Middies are also known as 'midfield'. They have the hardest job on the field as they are constantly running, and hence have to substitute more often. Middies will take face-offs, play offense and play defense. Some consider middies that are faceoff specialists to be the unsung heros for the team.

A middie in lacrosse is a player who plays both offense and defense. Middies are allowed to go to all parts of the field, they do the most running and need to be in the best shape.
