Do you think they are accurate?

Answer by  texasjeff (99)

Neilsen ratings products for public consumption typically consist of ratings points (percentage of all households with a television watching a particular program) and share (what percentage of households watching TV were watching a particular program). Neilsen has, in recent years, attempted to improve accuracy by assuring minority viewers, outside-the-home viewers, and Web-based viewers are counted. No ratings system is perfect.

The Nielson Rating system tells broadcasters how many people are watching their shows and the advertisements on that particular channel. Nielson ratings became less accurate once TiVo came out.

Neilson surveys are sent to households around the country. The record what programs they watch. They may not be 100% but they are the best information available.
