TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) levels are measured to help diagnose hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, or to check the overall function of the thyroid gland. It can also be used to check women with infertility problems. Adults normal range from 0.4 to 4.5 mIU/L although these numbers may vary dependent on the test.

A level of 3.0 and 5.0 is considered normal. Sometimes that does not tell the whole story. There are further tests available. The TSH levels do not always give all the answers to this problem.
