The dog needs to be checked by a vet. It could be suffering from blindness issues. Or maybe it could be seeing spirits since animals are more atuned to seeing them than humans are. Or maybe the dog just likes his own shadow.

Dogs that have Obsessive behavior need intensive behavior modification training. This should be done with a positive method such as clicker training. Please contact a dog behaviorist to assist you in remedying this behavior before it turns into something more serious. Obsessive behavior in dogs is a sign that the dog is unbalanced and needs help.

Find an animal behaviorist- your vet should be able to recommend one. Get the dog checked by a vet to make sure there is no medical problem.

There really isn't anything you can do other than try taking the dog to obediance training that will sometimes work if not they would probably be able to tell you the next step you could take with it.

If your dog is attacking shadows or finds them upsetting, you can work to desensitize him by allowing him to explore shadows in a calm manner with you praising him for his calm demeanor.

I would first start off by trying to show your dog your own shadow. Showing them when you move your arms that the shadow will move its arms as well. I had the same problem with a dog obsessed with reflections. I used the same method. It make take some time but they will eventually figure it out.
