A tonne is the short term for a metric tonne, as it is called in the US. A tonne is 1000 kilograms, about 2,205 pounds. Although the tonne isn't part of the International System of Units, it is still accepted. If it were part, it would be called a megagram.

The "tonne" is a measuring unit for weight (or, more precisely, for mass) and it is equivalent to 1.000 (one thousand) kilograms (or 2.205 lbs). Therefore, 7.5 tonne means 7.500 kilograms of weight and it may refer to the maximum allowed weight for a truck to transit (i.e. on road signs).

Tonne is a metric measurement and 1 tonne is equal to 1000 kilograms. a 7.5 tonne truck can carry a load up to 3 metric tonnes, and can be driven by anyone with an ordinary car driving licence (in the UK).
