Civil engineers plan, design, and direct the construction and maintenance of highways/roadways, airports, waste water systems, bridges, housing developments and a host of other facilities. They might work in a specific areas, like construction, solid waste management, land development, energy development and/or conservation. They can work in transportation, write specs, do structural design and costs estimates.

Civil engineers design infrastructure. They design roads, buildings, water works, sewer plants, and waste water systems. They often design dams, bridges, levees and power plants. They sometimes design man made lakes and flood control.
