Defragmentation is a process of physically reorganising or compacting files on your hard drive so that they are closer together, opening up more free disk space.

sometimes files become fragmented causing things not to work properly when you defrag the fragments get put back together so things can function better.

Defragging of a hard drive means to defragment the sectors of the drive or in other words to reorder the allocation of the sectors to be more efficient.
