If you have gout, you want to avoid sources of uric acid. This includes processed meats, organ meats, some fish, cherries, gravy, concentrated stocks and other things. Sensitivity may vary with severity of the illness, but all gout sufferers will be triggered by these foods.

For everyone, avoiding organ meats such as liver, etc., shellfish (lobster, shrimp, oysters), and lentils and other purines will help you to avoid medication and keep you from a painful attack.
