MIT does not have a GPA requirement. Admission is based on your application and how the application board feels you would fit in.

The range of GPAs that are accepted into MIT are 3. 2-4. 0, however this does not guarantee acceptance.

MIT does not just look at a persons GPA for acceptance, other factors must be weighed in. I have read that a 2. 8 GPA unweighted is a plus.

There is no one GPA number which will definitely get someone into MIT. You can aim to have higher than a 96 average.
