What is a good timeline of American history?

What would you be sure to include?

I believe the Spanish-American war in 1898 gets over looked quite often. It was the war that made the rest of the world view the U.S. as a super power. Also World War 1 and the Korean War do not get the respect they deserve. Poncho Villa's attack on the U.S. is also usually overlooked.

You really only need to know a few dates by heart. The first is 1776 when we made our claim to independence. The second is 1789 when we ratified the Constitution. You should also know the dates of the Civil War (1861-1865) and World War II (1941-1945). I would include September 11, 2001 as an important date on the timeline.
