If you feel the program needs to be modified, you must make the changes that best suit your student. There are several websites that discuss pros and cons of Abeka.

There are many ways to modify Abeka curriculum. Perhaps you need to make it secular. Do this by skipping over any biblical references. Maybe you want to use the curriculum with different grade levels. As long as your kids aren't too far apart in age, you can use one level.

You can use your best intuition to supplement. Look for homeschoolers in your area, that worked BEAUTIFULLY for me. Consult the local school district and be guided by them. ABSOLUTELY consult your librarian, and if you are homeschooling for religious reasons consult pastors not only of your church, but others.

It heavily depends on what part of the curriculum you wish to modify. It is best to call the company first to make sure you don't mess up any accreditation rules they may have set in place.

Abeka materials offer a Christian perspective. How it is modified depends on the students' needs. When modifying any homeschool program, it is important to maintain the state's required standards.

Make the programs digital, where the children can do their assignments on their laptops or even their iPods. Then they could sync with mom's computer for grading.
