Trees should be fertilized four times a year. A fertilizer containing potassium, phosphorous and nitrogen will be beneficial. Yellow leaves can be an indication of iron deficiency, in which case iron should be introduced. Zinc deficiency can also be present in older trees. Another point worth remembering is that avocado trees respond well to compost.

These trees do great with non-chemical fertilizers. Fish emulsion provides lots of nutrients your Avocado needs, as does worm castings and compost materials. Liquid fertilizer or granulated fertilizer is available, too. You can fertilize once yearly with a combination 10-30-10(NPK) mixture. Before planting your tree, mix compost in with soil to give it a good start.

The Avocado tree is a fruit bearing tree so any nitrogenous fertilizer will help it's growth. A balanced citrus blend fertilizer will also aid growth and provide essential nutrients. A large number of growers use what us referred to a young tree fertilizrt. This has a higher percentage of ammonia for organic sources and seems to have a positive effect.
