The cost of living is very low. There is much poverty, which results in a lot of crime in the urban areas. Rural life can be very primitive.

Uruguay is a relatively stable country that would be a great place to visit. Crime is pretty low, in comparison to its neighbors. There is a problem with poverty, which can be to your advantage (low cost of living) or detriment (finding a job). It is a democracy. I would visit first before committing to living there.

Uruguay is a third world country, with a lot of poverty, not a lot of well paying jobs, and high mortality rate.

Uruguay is said to be similar to Europe, but much less expensive. Uruguay is reported to have a rather low crime rate, with most crimes being petty crimes.

Living expenses are cheaper, but you are paying a price for safety. It does not have a good safety record and police help is few and far between.
