Pagan is an umbrella term for earth-based religions. There are as many variations of Pagan as there are of Christian. It's a belief system more than an organized religion.

Paganism was a broad term for religions that did not spring from Abraham like Judaism and Christianity did. The term literally means "rustic" or "country dweller". It would be sort of like calling someone a hillbilly today, only with a much harsher context as it implied false religion.
