What is period of time to breastfeed in one sitting?

It depends on your baby - each one is different. But a good average time is about twenty minutes per side. Keep nursing until your baby seems done.

I found as the baby got older, it became much more efficient at feeding and took a much shorter time, for example, ten minutes on each side. When my children were newborn, it took longer for them to latch on and breastfeeding took longer as they got tired more quickly even though they didn't need as much milk!

The period of time to breastfeed will depend on your child. My daughter would breastfeed for up to forty minutes (twenty minutes per side). She would wait for three to four hours before eating again. My son ate in shorter bursts. He would eat for twenty minutes and then eat again in two hours.

I think the idea time is to breastfeed form one side for about 10-15 minutes and then change over to the other breast. This helps in milk formation for the mammary gland that just got empty. So a change of sides every 10 minutes is good.
