REBT is based on the theories of Albert Ellis and his approach to cognitive therapy. The premise is that emotional disturbances come from our irrational beliefs that guide our perceptions of our experiences. In REBT, you are guided to assess/appraise your situations in more realistic ways and to cultivate new ways of seeing things.

REBT was created by Ernie Ellis. It involves analyzing a person's behavior by specific actions and their accompanying emotions, and correcting unhealthy behavior by dealing with the emotion behind it.

It is a way to help you identify faulty self talk. You work together to change the faulty beliefs you have that cause you to act in destructive ways.

Abbreviated RET, this method of therapy focused on the relationship between how we think and how we feel. Strong negative feelings of anger, depression, and anxiety that are typical reasons someone is in psychotherapy, re thought to be the result of irrational thinking that exaggerates life events and leads to exaggerated feelings. In therapy, the client learns to think rationally.
