Treatment of a canine heart murmur depends on how severe it is. A slight murmur often requires no treatment. More significant defects may require daily medication. You may also need to minimize the dogs physical activity. Severe heart murmurs will require surgery that is usually only available at specialized veterinary hospitals or teaching colleges.

It depends on the age of the dog. If diagnosed when the dog is a puppy, it might be recommended to wait and see if the puppy will out grow it, and if so, no treatment is necessary. If present as the dog ages, it is treated through surgical intervention.

Weight control is one of the best non-medical treatments and preventions for dogs with heart problems. Weight control can also help with the treatment and prevention of other problems. There are other options available as well, and it is best to consult your veterinarian on this issue.

Best thing to do is to have the do have surgery and let the cards fall were they may and try to keep positive. If the dog is in pain the best thing to do is put the dog down.

It depends on how bad the heart murmur is. Sometimes it can be treated with medication alone, sometimes in puppies the problem will correct itself, but at times surgery is needed to treat it. In very cases, the murmur is inoperable and medication can only do so much, so it can kill the dog.

there are amazing treatments available today, speak to your vet for suggestions. It will depend on the level of heart murmur and if there is fluid retention already.
