Having been through several hurricanes, I can tell you that the best preparation is to stay informed. Be sure that you have a battery-powered radio or television so that you can hear the latest forecasts and news. Most importantly, if told to evacuate, do so. Nothing that you would leave behind is worth dying over.

The best way to prepare for a hurricane is to buy supplies. Buy flashlights and batteries, food that will last a long time without needing to be cooked or refridgerated, and also buy a hand-crank radio. Board up your windows and ensure that important documents and your valuables are placed in a waterproof, safe area.

The best way to prepare of a hurricane is to get all needed supplies before the estimated time for land fall. Be sure to get food that can be kept without refridegeration or need to be cooked with electricity. If you are on the waterway and it is going to be high catagory, board up windows. Prepared for possible evacuation.
