Mild menstrual cramps are painful but can be treated in variety of ways. A warm bath can help ease the tension in your abdominal muscles and give you some relief. Drinking beverages such as green tea, hot lemon water can also help lessen your discomfort.

Many over-the-counter pain killers claim to offer relief from menstrual cramps but if they are severe enough it may be wise to consult a physician. They may be able to offer prescription pain medication that will be much more effective than over-the-counter medications.

There are a couple of easy ways to relieve cramps. If you aren't allergic to ibuprofen, it is the quickest relief, just follow the directions on the packaging. Also, laying down and applying heat, such as a heating pad or a warmed-up rice bag, will help alleviate the cramping as well.

For me personally, I find heat to be the best way--using a heating pad or Thermacare definitely helps when cramps get bad. Other people find that herbs or pain relievers (both those aimed at menstrual pain and those for general pain) can help. I also recommend attempting to do some physical activity--keeping your mind off of cramps can be best.
