Any basic glass cleaner should do the trick. Windex has always worked great for me. If you want an extra bonus look for a water-repellent glass cleaner so that the rain will just slide right of your windshield.

In my high school auto class I was always told to use ammonia and newspaper. It worked really well, but it smelled rather bad. The easier way is to just take the window cleaner you use in your house and clean them with that and a paper towel. Really though, ammonia was good.

Just like the windows in your home, the best way to keep your car windows clean is with regular glass cleaner and a little elbow grease. There is no need to buy fancy products designed especially for cars. Any product marketed for a special use is marked up for no good reason. Glass is glass!
