A regulation softball is 12 inches or so in circumference, or about 3.8 inches in diameter. Other, non-regulation softballs are found with slightly smaller circumferences for juniors play.

A regulation-sized softball has a diameter of 12 inches (the size of a normal ruler). This is the size used at all levels of competition, from middle-school softball to the Olympics. Did you know that softball bats have an average diameter of 2 1/4 inches? Softballs are usually yellow to help with visibility.

The diameter of the ball depends on the class of play. In fast pitch it is 12 inches. In slow pitch 11 or 12 inches can be played.
