The main difference is DWI is driving while intoxicated and DUI is Driving under the influence. DWI is worse than DUI but they are both not good and you should get a lawyer to defend you in court. Depending what state you live in is how bad the charges will be for the 2 incidents.

Technically there is no difference. DWI means Driving While Intoxicated and DUI means Driving Under the Influence. Both of these basically mean that you are driving drunk or intoxicated. It may vary from state to state, but both really mean the same thing. Just don't drive after you've been drinking.

It varies by state law, and some states even have an OWI - Operating While Intoxicated. Generally in states where there is a difference, the DUI is a lesser charge. Usually the degree of intoxication determines whether you get a DWI or a DUI, but again, each state is different.
