A pediatrician is a medical doctor with either an MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school, which requires a four-year undergrad degree as well. All physicians must pass the national medical boards. A residency in pediatrics is required followed by board exams in the specialty for licensing and board certification.

After medical school, you would need to take an internship for 1 year and then go into residency for 3 years. You would have to do all these things to get a license. After getting your license you can get your certification by passing a written exam.

As far as exams go the national medical boards and the state certifications exams are required. Aside from that a written exam will be taken for certification while an internship will be taken for a license.

You have to complete your college, med school, internship and residency. Next you have to do further residency for pediatric care, pass your boards, and apply for your license. Technically you CAN practice without passing your boards, but your hire-ability is grim.

Aside from having a bachelor's degree and a degree from a nationally-accredited medical school, pediatricians will have to take the state certification exam in order to get a license in this field. The certification exam may cover aspects pediatrics such as nutrition, podiatry, medicine, and disease diagnosis. You can go to the Federation of State Medical Boards at www. fsmb. org.
