Well, the most abundant element in the universe is Hydrogen... and one Hydrogen molecule is made up two hydrogen atoms. So I guess by transition, the Hydrogen atom would be the most abundant atom in the universe. But when it comes to the earth, Oxygen would be the most abundant.

To start off with, most abundant atom in the universe is indeed hydrogen, which comprises 3/4 of all matter in the world.
