"Adaptation" was 2002 released film directed by Spike Jonze. It was an American comedy-drama movie. The film was based on a book "The Orchard Thief." Yes, it's somewhat like, "Being John Malkovich" which was a 1999 American black comedy with the same writer and director.

In "Adaptation," we see the book come to life as it's being adapted into a screenplay. Charlie is writing a screenplay for Susan Orlean's book, "The Orchid Thief." It's not the same as "Being John Malkovich" where the people were able to go into Malkovich's body and see the world through his eyes.

Adaptation is about a famous and successful screenwriter who is having trouble writing an adaptation of a popular novel. In the meantime, his twin brother, an aspiring screenwriter himself, is writing a screenplay that the main character finds contrived. As his stress level from his writer's block and his brother's success increases, he finds himself in unfortunate circumstances.
