Most rodents are happy with a cool and dark place to live under. They do live in all climates so it will depend on the breed.

Much like any rodent a rat lives underground or tight under other objects such as logs, floorboards rocks etc. Rats can be found almost anywhere from Siberia through to Africa and all thats in between.

In the wild rats like to find small burrows or holes and create nests inside for them to stay. They are often found in temperate, wooded areas. Unfortunately for us, nowadays a common rat habitat is in human buildings - in subways, basements, alleys and garbage heaps built by humans.

Normally all rodents dig underground burroughs for their habitat. In the wild they can be found on farms and other loose earth areas where it is easier to dig underground.

The common species of rats live in areas that are populated by humans. They easily thrive in these areas. Rats forage and savage for food and they have no troubles finding food in populated areas. Making cities and town some of the rats favorite habitats. These rats have become specialized in devouring what humans throw away for food.
