Shar pei's are typically territorial and very protective of their pack and space. A dogs pack not only extends to other dogs, but also to their human owners and companions. They will be very loyal and very protective at the same time. They are typically good with kids in their own "pack".

My sharpei is gentle, loving, affectionate and willful, a calm, gentle form of control works best because he is timid by nature. He is very intuitive and considerate. He prefers not to be petted by strangers which is hard because he is so adorable.

Shar Pei's are wonderful dogs. They are not great with small kids at all. They are very loyal and protective which at times can be confused with aggresiveness. They are a lot of fun if you provide excercise and love. These dogs are very smart as well as cute and beautiful.

The miniature shar pei, having been bred as a fighter is extremely loyal to its human family, and having an aggressive nature, should be socialized at the earliest opportunity. Exposure to people and animals while they're young is necessary for the miniature to function as a well rounded, social animal.

Loyal, dignified, protective of property, somewhat reserved with strangers. Not overly affectionate even with close family. Incidentally, there is actually no such thing as a "miniature" shar-pei.

The shar pei tends to be stubborn and a one person dog, but socializes well. As long as you take control and socialize your shar pei to other pets and children, you should have no issues. This pup may try to take control, it is important you be the boss.

Independent and strong willed. Excellent guard dog as he is protective of family. Aloof with people he doesn't know, devoted to family. Calm and confident, intuitive understanding of this owner.

The Shar Pei is a strong willed and potentially aggressive dog (to both other animals and humans). They can be rewarding pets but require a firm owner.
