In Greek mythology, Achilles was undefeatable in combat. As an infant, his mother dipped him into a mystic river, said to divide the world of the living from the world of the dead, and this made him impervious to all weapons. Except for his heel, where his mother held him when she dipped him. That spot was his weak point.

Achilles' mother dipped him in the river Styx as a child to give him immortality. She held him by the heel so that was the only part that did not get wet and therefore protected so that was the only spot on Achilles' body that left him vulnerable to death.

The story is that Achille's mother tried to make him immortal by dipping him in the river Styx. As she dipped him in, she held him by one heel and forgot to dip him again to get the heel that she held. An arrow struck Achilles vulnurable heel and he died from that.
