The Washington Monument, on the National Mall, stands 555 feet high and is the tallest building in the United States capital city of Washington, DC. When the monument was completed in 1885 it was the tallest structure in the world until the Eiffel Tower was completed in 1889. The Washington Monument remains the tallest stone structure in the world.

The tallest building in the District of Columbia is the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. It is 329 feet in height.
