See a doctor. Sounds like it may be a migrain and your doctor will be able to prescribe a treatment and give you tips to prevent it.

It sounds like you have a migraine. You can get some over the counter medicine for migraine type headaches. If that does not work you should see your doctor. They can prescribe you something for the pain. If the pain is very severe or happens all of sudden you need to go the hospital immediately.

Short, intense and stabbing headaches felt by sufferers can use indomethacin for prevention. It is an NSAID or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug with possible side effects including heartburn, nausea, gastroesophageal reflux and gastric ulcers. Thus anyone taking it regularly needs an annual examination by an ophthalmologist.
