What is this loud ticking noise in the engine of my Mazda?

Well there could be two possible reasons for your engine noise. It could either be caused by a loose valve-train or possibly the fuel injectors. Pull you valve covers and verify that everything is adjusted to factory specification. If it still makes the noise then it's probably the fuel injectors.

You could have bad oil pressure and the ticking noise is one of your lifters. First check your oil pressure, and go from there.

A loud ticking from the engine compartment may be indicating a collapsed lifter at the camshaft. If you have not changed your engine oil in a long time can cause this problem,also running too thin of oil can cause this problem.

Loud ticking noises are often symptoms of an engine about to "throw a rod. " A mechanic should listen to it but you probably need an overhaul, or a new car.
