This is a perennial bunch grass. It grows mainly in the southeastern United States. It likes to grow in flat woods and sand hills. The most common place to find this is in pine forest and areas that have been burned. It would not work very well for areas that have a lot of foot traffic.

Wiregrass, technically speaking, is a grass found in the pinelands of southern states like Florida. The term "wiregrass" is also a generic term for a weed type grass found in cool season lawns of the north. Either way, there are much better varieties of warm and cool season turf grasses available today.

No. "Wiregrass" usually refers to semi-arid "Aristida" grasses, which have tall-"wire-like"-stems, specifically "Aristida stricta" which grows in Alabama, Florida, & Georgia. Aristida-stricta depends on summer-grass-fires to stimulate flowering & seed-production.

No! Wire grass is very hardy and extremely hard to kill. It is not very attractive, even when cut. The larger it grows, the more brown and spread out it looks. It will push out everything else - other grasses, flowers, etc. Most people think of it as a WEED.

No, it is not generally used in yards and isn't all that great for a yard either. It is usually found in flatwoods and sandhills. Although it grows fairly quick it is not good for yards because in order to maintain the growth of wire grass you have to burn it during the summer months and it grows very stringy.

It is a very persistent type of spiky grass that grows in the southern states of the US and doesn't need much care. It is good for sandy ground and hot climates but remember, it is very hard to get rid of once it has taken hold.
