The grinding sound might be a annoying but your cat is demonstrating excellent eating habits. He is making every effort to avoid gulping food which can lead to becoming overweight.

Oral discomfort in cats is quite common. If there's excessive drooling, there could also be some stomach or neurological problems. You need to see your vet as soon as possible.

It could be normal for you cat for his jaw to grind, but it could also cause medical problems later in life. He could have also twisted his jaw and that's why it's grinding.

The cat has likely been chewing or eating non-food items. Watch the cat and see what the items may be. They need to be removed from the cat's environment, because further exposure could lead to worse conditions (example: Pica).
