Hardwoods with little padding or fabric are best due to the damp conditions. some teak and tropical wood are good as well as the moisture keeps them from needing retreatment.

The furniture in my basement is all old stuff I didn't want upstairs! My kids play downstairs. I didn't want anything they'd ruin. Plus, it can get musty down there!

If you have a basement with obvious water leakage, you may consider purchasing mold-resistant furniture/all-weather furniture. Wicker, rattan, teak wood, cast aluminum, and bamboo are all known for their mold-resistance.
