Dumbcane, also known as Dieffenbachia does well in any good commercial soil mix. Allow the soil to become somewhat dry between watering and then water heavily.

Any kind of good potting soil will be perfect for the diffenbachia. During spring and summer you need to fertilize the plant and water thoroughly at least once a week, showering it frequently. High humidity and southern window lighting is recommended. Dumbcanes can grow to be very tall and you may need to cut it.

Dumbcane flourishes in soil that will retain water but will also drain well. Add some Perilite or sand to general potting soil. A little peat moss will also be helpful to provide extra aeration.
