On a fitness test you should make sure the heart and lungs can deliver blood to the muscles (running, walking). Will want to test for Muscular strength and endurance (push ups and sit ups). Flexibility (sit and reach) is also important. BMI test is important too.

The APFT (Army Physical Fitness Test) uses situps, pushups and a timed 2 mile run- 50 points per event are required to graduate basic training. The President's challenge can be either performance related or health related and the requirements are listed on adultfitnesstest.org Some is quite daunting, I was surprised!
