In measuring a football program, you should look at the lenght of time the coach has been there, the history of the program, and also the quality of education he will get at the school. You want to make sure that if you choose the school the program will remain the same while he is there.

If it is a college football program, you should consider the graduation rate of its athletes. If your son is not the next Peyton Manning, he'll need a post-football career. If it's a high school program, consider how many players go on to college, scholarship or not.

Find out how large the program is, and whether your son will get playing time. You want to interview the coach to make sure you agree with his coach style.

I would say look into how involved the couches are of making sure that they have the players on the right path to graduate while playing.
