Frost free refrigerators aren't really free of frost; they melt it using special internal heaters. When the defrost cycle is running they may feel noticeably hot to the touch.

The metal coils in the back will be warm to toasty to the touch but you should be able to hold on to it without having to pull away due to the excessive heat. Any other exposed part should not be hot. The fridge should be replaced if to hot.

Refrigerators get hot to the touch when the compressor is running too long and not cooling well. This problem can also occur when the heater element in the freezer goes out, and the freezer overheats. Check for ice buildup on the back wall of the freezer section.

Unplug it immediately, as in NOW! Either the coolant is blocked from flowing or has leaking out. Either way, if you don't disconnect NOW you risk starting a fire.

You should call the company brand name of the refrigerator to describe the problem. They should be able to help you determine if this is normal.

When a refrigerator gets hot to the touch, I think you should get another one, because it is diffently something wrong with the motor or wiring.
