If you see a wart like growth on the skin of your hamster, this could be polyomavirus. This is not life threatening and is not painful, but your vet can remove the warts. However, it is very contagious so do not get another hamster in the same cage.

Take him to a vet first and foremost. If he's not in pain then it might not be too troubling. But it could be something cancerous and the only way to find out is through a vet.

You should take your hamster to a veterinarian that specializes in exotics or pocket pets to examine the growth. They may need to aspirate it or take a biopsy to send off to get a diagnosis.
