what to do

What should I do about waking up with scratches?

I don't know exactly what happened, but I don't know if I need to see a doctor, or just wear gloves to sleep in.

Various things could causes it. Few scenarios are: 1) if you have a pet than you may be getting scratched by it. 2) It could be your partner is moving around at night in sleep and accidentally resulting in scratching you. 3) allergy to the bedsheet.

If you have really long fingernails, I suggest cutting them first. Second, if you wear rings, particularly an engagement ring or college ring, take them off before bed time. Before going to bed, rub cocoa butter or lotion on your face and wear gloves (breathable, cotton or satin).

Ok, for now, just try sleeping with gloves on. However if the problem persists do go see your doctor! It could be something severe.

This is certainly something to see a doctor about, even if you're doing it to yourself. We don't scratch ourselves for no reason, so if you are doing it then something is causing your brain to think that your body needs to scratched when you go to sleep. This could be symptomatic of serious sleeping disorders.
