Just be patient. I went through that myself, including all the worry and anxiety. But when they're ready, they will let you know. You can encourage them, offer rewards for going, or if an older sibling is trained, take time to praise them in front of the youngest.

If you are having trouble with getting this milestone accomplished, my recommenation would be to take an entire week off of work and spend the entire week at home with your child practicing, practicing, practicing. Use rewards, positive reinforcement, and lots of patience for the entire week together.

This child is old enough to do it themselves. Make him/her carry, change, and dispose of their own diapers. They will get the message real quick.

The severity of a potty training problem at four years is largely a function of what species you are attemting to condition to use proper facilities. A four year old dog should be well trained by this point. If you are talking about a human child, you have to get them fully trained before expecting them to function at school.
