Usually ant bait is made from a sweetened syrup with a poison, so that when the ant takes the bait back to the nest it will kill all the ants. Call the emergency vet and ask him what to do. This is a poison and needs to be address by either a vet or poison control. Read the box.

First you should read the package of the ant bait for any warnings. Then, call a vet to find out if you need to bring the dog in for emergency care. You will most likely need to bring the dog into the vet's office if you did not use pet-safe bait.

Although most ant traps are extremely harmful to ants, they have a low enough dose of poison that if a dog gets a hold of one it should be OK. However, you should call the vet and let them know of the situation, also giving them the brand name of the ant bait.

Ant poisoning will kill your dog, just like it would kill you. So, if you ate ant poisoning, you would go to the doctor -- you should treat your dog the same way. Take him to the vet, so they can check his heart, lungs and pull some blood to check toxicity levels and put him on fluids. Seek med care!
