The peanut grows underground. After the flowers of the peanut plants are pollinated, then the seed pods (the peanuts) are produced beneath the ground, adjacent to the roots of the plant.

The opnly nut that I know of that grows underground are peanuts but you can do a web search and it will give you all of them that grow underground.
