What types of medications are allowed by the army?

If I want to join, I mean, is it okay if I need some medications?

If you need medication, the military will provide it for you. You are not allowed to bring medications of any kind to BMT unless it is a prescription that has been authorized at the MEPS and dispensed accordingly.

wrong! i got denied today for taking percription medication. There is a zero tolerence ask any recruiter! the only way is to get off the medication and have your doc write a not saying that you and he/her feels you can live without it. Thats what im doing.  add a comment

Totally depends what the meds are for. If it is for ADD, no meds for this for 2 years at least before you get in. Generally if you NEED prescription medication, you will not be allowed to join any branch of the service. No allergies, no diabetics, no heart conditons, no migraines, etc. They are very strict.

Your first step should be to contact a local recruiter and ask. As a general rule of thumb, most over the counter & prescription drugs are permitted, but may disqualify you for certain jobs due to potential side effects. You should contact the local army-recruiting center , as they are generally familiar with any potential enlistment disqualification factors.

Any medicine that is required to sustain a soldier's life may render the soldier ineligible for service. Medicines such as blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, etc. all pose too much of a risk factor in the deployment of said soldier. This decision can be appealed.
