Native Americans, also known as American Indians, had lived in America a long time before Europeans found the continent in the 1490's. When Europeans started to conquer America, they brought there slaves from Africa with them. These African people were a different race than Europeans or American Indians. The clearest difference between them was the skin color.

The term "Native Americans" refers to the indigenous people of North America, or in other words, the people inhabiting North America before the Europeans colonized the continent. While it is true that Native Americans were commonly enslaved by European colonists in the 1600s and 1700s, the vast majority of slaves in North America were brought from Africa.
