What would cause my VCR to power on and off by itself?

If this happens when another device is turning on/off the VCR may be receiving interference from that device. also, a remote could be sending unintentional signals to the VCR.

It could be power supply problems either low voltage or intermittant supply or it also could be some other remote using the same frequency and shutting it down.

If a VCR is powering on and off by itsel, I would check to make sure the power cord is securely inputed into the device and outlet.

Your VCR has probably suffered from a power surge. Unplug the device and try to plug it in another outlet. This may solve the problem. If not, then your VCR is most likely broken and cannot be fixed. You will have to buy a new one, which are hard to come across these days.
