The best way to prevent leg cramps is hydration. Make sure you drink water during and after exercise. Leg cramps often occur because of dehydration or malnutrition resulting from physical activity. Electrolyte drinks such as gatorade are ideal. Additionally, make sure to stretch after activity

Drink pleanty of water before bed. Try stretching your legs before bed and when you wake up in the morning. And increase your daily potassium intake. A banana a day should do it or take a supplement.

Several problems cause leg cramps. Drinking more water and stretching (both dynamic and static) of the muscles that cramp will help with most problems. Sometimes cramps are caused by weak muscles, so you may also need to start lifting weights or take up running.

To avoid leg cramps while sleeping, massage your legs with warm coconut oil before going to bed. Cover your legs with a blanket to keep it warm.
